Globalizing your supply chain makes lots of sense if you’re a third world country with inherent social, political and economic risks. However, if you live in a stable capitalistic democracy, outsourcing introduces risks without much financial benefit.

In the distant past, companies raced to outsource production to China, India, etc. and the financial incentives were real. Today, the savings are quite small and when you calculate the total procurement costs the savings become a cost.

It’s time to start thinking about building a more reliable and sustainable supply chain within the world’s largest economy, the USA.
